Australian company offers a network of gay friendly businesses for LGBTI community

Melbourne, August 2, 2018 -  One of the most recognized flags in the world is the Pride Flag. Created in 1978, this flag was developed to symbolize the gay community and their fight for equality. Activist and artist, Gilbert Baker, is the individual credited to the creation of this globally known flag. Baker approached a local company to mass produce the flag and had to eliminate one color because it wasn’t commercially available to purchase.

That same year, Harvey Milk – San Francisco’s first openly gay supervisor was assassinated. The LGBTI community wanted to come together to display their strength and solidarity after this tragic assassination – which led to the San Francisco Pride Committee using the rainbow flag designed by Baker. To divide the colors evenly during a parade route, they needed to eliminate another color from the flag.  This left the flag with 6 stripes – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. This flag is the flag that is still used around the world today, almost 40 years later.

Rainbow Flag Australia has created a digital and hardcopy magazine dedicated to gay pride available for many different Australian cities including:

* Sydney

* Perth

* Melbourne

* Brisbane
