Las Vegas, NV – STDAware, trusted online provider of FDA-Approved laboratory STD testing, announced today that they are donating to the American Sexual Health Association (ASHA) 10% of all proceeds from testing sold during STD Awareness Month in April.
There are nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections per year in the United States, according to a report by the CDC. With nearly half of these infections occurring in young people aged 15-24, it is clear that more needs to be done to educate and inform American youth about the risks of STDs and strategies for prevention. Two of the most prevalent sexually transmitted infections, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, oftentimes have no symptoms and are undetected and untreated, making appropriate screening a critical component of the sexual health of anyone who is sexually active, particularly young people.
Each year STD Awareness month is observed to highlight the impact of STDs on the lives of Americans and the significance of preventing, testing for, and treating STDs. The CDC has chosen this year to focus on the resurgence in syphilis cases in the United States where such infections are at their highest rate and number in 20 years.
“We are thrilled to support the ASHA during STD Awareness Month” said Michael Dubendris, founder and President of STDAware. “Education about STDs and access to testing are critical in the fight against these infections. We provide access to testing, but it’s organizations like the American Sexual Health Association that are going above and beyond in terms of raising awareness.”
STDAware is committed to supporting organizations focused on prevention by providing STD education that raises awareness of this public health problem. That is why in addition to sponsoring the South Central Indiana AIDS Walk on April 7th, STDAware is pledging a much larger contribution to the ASHA. The company’s founder has also promised to personally match all money raised by his company for the ASHA and all STDAware employee donations to the ASHA throughout the month of April.
